Wildfire Burns Near Fountain, Bringing Fire Danger Close to Home

Wildfire season is once again demonstrating how quickly fire can move close to home, with a roughly 10-acre wildfire reported Monday near Fountain.

Fountain firefighters assisted with the fire in the area of Bradley and Goldfield, north of the Fountain Valley School and west of the Big Johnson Reservoir. The location put the fire near residential and developed areas of the Fountain community, although no homes or businesses within the City of Fountain were threatened.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from surrounding areas as firefighters responded and worked to address the blaze.

While the fire did not threaten structures in Fountain, its location serves as a reminder that wildfire danger is not limited to remote mountain communities. Open spaces throughout the Pikes Peak region can quickly become areas of concern when dry conditions, wind and other factors contribute to fire growth.

For residents of Fountain and surrounding communities, the incident is another reminder of the importance of remaining aware of local fire conditions and having a plan in place should a wildfire threaten the area.

The fire near Big Johnson Reservoir highlights the growing reality of wildfire preparedness for communities throughout El Paso County, where open space and developed neighborhoods often exist in close proximity.
