As Fountain continues to grow, city leaders face the challenge of expanding public services while remaining responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. The Fountain Fire Department, under the leadership of Chief Devon Graham, has recently demonstrated how those goals can work together.

Most recently, the department secured approximately $500,000 in savings during the procurement process for a new ambulance and fire engine. By carefully evaluating purchasing options and identifying efficiencies, department leadership was able to reduce costs without sacrificing equipment quality or emergency response capabilities. The effort reflects an ongoing focus on ensuring residents receive the highest level of service while maximizing the value of public investments.

The savings come on the heels of another significant milestone for the department. Earlier this year, the Fountain Fire Department earned an ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating of Class 2, a distinction that places the department among the top 5 percent of fire departments and fire protection districts nationwide.

The rating is based on a comprehensive evaluation of fire department operations, emergency communications, water supply infrastructure, training, and overall readiness. Achieving a Class 2 rating reflects years of planning, investment, and dedication by firefighters, command staff, city officials, and community partners.

The designation carries benefits beyond recognition. Higher ISO ratings can positively impact homeowners and commercial property insurance costs, potentially reducing premiums for residents and businesses while reinforcing Fountain's reputation as an attractive and affordable place to live and work.

Department leaders are also looking ahead to the city's future needs. Planning efforts are already underway for the eventual development of Station 4, which will help improve emergency response coverage as Fountain's population and geographic footprint continue to expand.

While construction remains several years away, fire officials emphasize that opening a new station requires extensive long-term preparation. Equipment acquisitions, staffing projections, training programs, response analysis, and budget planning must all occur well in advance to ensure a smooth transition when the facility becomes operational.

The department's recent apparatus purchases are part of that broader strategy. By spreading investments over multiple years, city leaders can better manage costs while ensuring future firefighters have the equipment necessary to serve a growing community.

The accomplishments underscore a broader trend within the department: maintaining high operational standards while planning for future growth. Through strategic investments, careful budgeting, and a commitment to continuous improvement, the Fountain Fire Department continues to strengthen its ability to protect residents today while preparing for the demands of tomorrow.

For residents, the results are evident in faster response capabilities, nationally recognized fire protection services, and confidence that the city is taking proactive steps to meet future public safety needs. As Fountain grows, the department's recent achievements demonstrate that strong emergency services and fiscal responsibility can go hand in hand.
