El Paso County Celebrates Fourth of July with Community Events, Fort Carson Freedom Fest, and Safety-Focused Festivities

El Paso County is preparing for a full slate of Independence Day celebrations this week, with events stretching across Colorado Springs, Fountain, and Fort Carson. While fireworks remain a centerpiece of the holiday for many, this year’s festivities are being shaped by heightened fire restrictions across the region, prompting officials and organizers to emphasize safe, community-centered celebrations.

Fort Carson Freedom Fest Kicks Off Holiday Weekend

One of the county’s largest and most anticipated events, the Front Range Freedom Fest at Fort Carson, will take place July 3 at Iron Horse Park. The free, public event is expected to draw military families, veterans, and community members from across the Front Range.

Hosted by U.S. Army Garrison Fort Carson, the festival includes live music, food vendors, family activities, and community programming honoring both America’s 250th anniversary and Colorado’s 150th anniversary. Organizers have also highlighted entertainment ranging from multiple musical acts to large-scale patriotic displays, with past iterations and programming plans including a drone show and ceremonial elements tied to Fort Carson’s 4th Infantry Division presence.

Fort Carson officials have described Freedom Fest as a way to bring the broader community together in a shared celebration of service and independence, while offering a free, family-friendly alternative ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

Fire Restrictions Shape Celebrations Across The County

This year’s Independence Day comes amid elevated wildfire risk across southern Colorado. El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs have both implemented burn bans and fire restrictions due to dry conditions, high temperatures, and wind patterns that increase the potential for fast-moving fires.

As a result, personal fireworks remain illegal in Colorado Springs and much of El Paso County, with officials urging residents to avoid backyard use and instead attend licensed public displays or community events.

Several municipalities across Colorado have also scaled back or adjusted fireworks programming in response to fire danger, reflecting a broader statewide trend toward safety-focused holiday planning.

Community Celebrations Still Take Center Stage

Despite restrictions, organizers say the spirit of Independence Day remains strong throughout El Paso County. From Fort Carson’s Freedom Fest to neighborhood festivals, residents will still have multiple opportunities to gather, celebrate, and participate in community traditions.

Local officials continue to encourage residents to plan ahead, follow all fire safety guidelines, and take advantage of organized events rather than personal fireworks.

As the county marks another Fourth of July- and a milestone year for both Colorado and the nation- the message remains consistent: celebration continues, even if it looks a little different this summer.
