As El Paso County’s Commissioner for District 4 and former Fountain City Councilman, Cory Applegate offers a grounded, blue-collar perspective rooted in his lifelong connection to the community. Growing up in El Paso County, Cory saw firsthand both the struggles and the potential of his neighbors. His father served on the Fountain City Council, laying the groundwork for Cory’s dedication to public service, going on to serve on Fountain City Council himself. Before stepping into politics, Cory spent years as an electrician, where he learned the value of hard work and practical solutions.

“I grew up working with my hands,” Cory recalls. “Before politics, I was out there fixing things—understanding how the world works at ground level. That shaped the way I think about leadership.”

Since becoming Commissioner for District 3, Cory has made infrastructure and public safety his top priorities. Under his leadership, roads that once crumbled are being repaved, water systems are being modernized, and the county’s foundations are stronger than ever. “Infrastructure is the backbone of progress,” Cory says. “We need to ensure that every neighborhood—whether it’s booming or still growing—has what it needs.”

Public safety is equally vital to Cory’s vision. He’s championed increased funding for law enforcement, ensuring that deputies have the training and tools they need. “Our families need to feel safe—whether they’re at home, at school, or out in the community,” he emphasizes.

Cory is also deeply committed to the south end of the county. This area often feels overlooked, and Cory is determined to change that. Together with Fountain City Council Member Verhoff, he’s leading the charge for expanded veteran services in Fountain. “Our veterans have given everything. It’s time we give them the support they need,” Cory says.
