American Furniture Warehouse Takes Shape Along Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs
A long-awaited American Furniture Warehouse expansion is finally becoming a reality on Colorado Springs’ rapidly growing northeast side, with construction underway on the retailer’s second location in the city.
The new store is being built near the intersection of Powers Boulevard and Dublin Boulevard, with the primary entrance expected to be accessed from Tutt Boulevard. The project is expected to bring a significantly larger American Furniture Warehouse to the area than the company’s longtime location near Interstate 25 and Fillmore Street.
According to the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, permits were issued in September 2025 for the project, which has an estimated construction value of approximately $45 million and encompasses roughly 345,000 square feet. Crews had already begun moving dirt and preparing the site when the permits were issued.
The development has been years in the making. American Furniture Warehouse purchased property along the Powers corridor more than a decade ago, originally envisioning a second Colorado Springs location as the city continued expanding toward the northeast.
Plans submitted to the city in 2021 called for a massive facility that would combine a furniture showroom with substantial warehouse and support space. The original proposal outlined approximately 122,500 square feet of showroom and office space along with about 210,000 square feet dedicated to merchandise storage.
The project was delayed multiple times, including during a period when rising construction costs made the timing less favorable for the company. In 2023, American Furniture Warehouse officials confirmed that the Powers location remained part of the company’s plans despite the delays.
Now, the project is moving forward.
The new location is expected to be larger than the retailer’s existing Colorado Springs store, which opened in 1999 near I-25 and Fillmore Street. The additional warehouse space is expected to give the company greater inventory capacity in Colorado Springs and could allow customers to take furniture home more quickly rather than waiting for merchandise to be transported from other locations.
Furniture Today reported in March 2026 that the new facility is planned to total approximately 235,000 square feet in its current configuration, including about 122,000 square feet of showroom space, with an expected opening in early 2027.
The project represents another major retail development along the Powers corridor, an area that has experienced substantial residential and commercial growth in recent years.
For American Furniture Warehouse, the new location also provides an opportunity to better serve customers on the east and northeast sides of Colorado Springs. The company has previously cited the city’s continued growth as a reason for pursuing a second location.
The expansion will not replace the company’s existing Colorado Springs store near Fillmore Street. Instead, the Powers Boulevard location is intended to operate as a second store, giving American Furniture Warehouse a larger presence in the local market.
As construction continues, the large structure rising along Powers Boulevard is becoming a visible sign of the area’s continued commercial growth. For residents who have watched the property sit undeveloped for years, the project marks the long-awaited arrival of a retailer that has been part of Colorado Springs’ plans for more than a decade.
If construction remains on schedule, residents could begin shopping at the new American Furniture Warehouse in 2027.
